When we know and believe this wonderous truth, the basal fact of the gospel of redeeming grace, we have the witness of the Spirit that we are the children of God. We love Him, because He first loved us: and this ever-deepening love enriches our knowledge of God and things divine; it purifies us by expelling from our hearts the lusts of the carnal man and by molding us into the likeness of its object; it makes us find in the service of our fellowmen that obedience to the Father’s will which is the true freedom and blessedness of eternal life.
